The Nintendo 3DS Cosmo Black unit is a groundbreaking games unit that brings the world of 3D to hand-held gaming, without the need to wear glasses or use any accessories.
Nintendo has long been a leading innovator in the gaming world, previously introducing touch-screen and motion-controlled games. Here they use two screens on one console to deliver 3D effects.
Overview of the Nintendo 3Ds Cosmo Black
The Nintendo 3DS Cosmo Black follows the form of many of the previous units from this maker, with similar control pad and button controls to previous models.

However, it differs in that its clam-shell design has a lower-level touch LCD screen controlled by an adjustable telescoping stylus and a top LCD screen that displays in 3D to the naked eye. The level of 3D effect is adjustable by a depth slider, which can also turn the effects off, so that the game is played in normal 2D, if preferred.
The 3D display provides depth of field that increases the gamers’ ability to see positions of characters and obstacles in the compatible 3D games.
The Nintendo 3DS Cosmo Black also features a circle pad for more precision controlling of all-round direction and motion and gyro sensors that respond quickly to the unit being moved, tilted, changing levels or twisted around as the game requires, transferring the movements into the game itself.
The unit is pre-loaded with some games like “Face Raiders” (which uses the user’s own face) and applications like the 3DS camera, which has one digital camera pointing at the user and two outer cameras on the upper edge taking photos in 3D.
If you keep it with you in sleep mode you are able to exchange data with other Nintendo users via the StreetPass feature. It also includes SpotPass which detects available Wi-Fi hotspots where you can download software and game data from Nintendo.
Additional features of the unit include sleep mode, a pedometer, an activity log where users can check play time and a sound system that allows you to play around and manipulate sounds or listen to MP3 music (stereo speakers are to the left and right of the top screen.)
The Nintendo 3DS Cosmo Black comes complete with a recharging cradle. It takes around 3.5 hours to fully charge and utilises a lithium battery which will give around 3 to 5 hours of game time – more if 3D is turned off and the brightness is dimmed.
It also has a 2Gb memory card for storing photos, music and sound recordings and this can be upgraded if necessary.
